At the 2021 developer fair, Google presented future-oriented new features and functions that should make Google search easier for everyone. We know that for an optimal Google search, the terms should always be quite short so that Google can provide an accurate answer. “MUM” offers us a problem solution for long and complex search inqueries. In a blog post from Google itself, they call “MUM” a milestone in artificial intelligence.
There is also an answer to long search inqueries
The new function can not only recognize words, but has also developed a new understanding of information and knowledge. It is ready to recognize connections based on a word. Thus, Google enables us to get the same clear answer with less information or rather less search inqueries.
Google itself provides a clear example to explain the function in an understandable way. Someone has been hiking on Mt. Adams and they now want to know if the conditions are the same on Mt. Fuji. Normally, one would have to Google information such as weather, equipment and hiking trails of Mt. Fuji separately. Beacause of the new tool, it is possible to compare the two mountains in a single question. For example, one answer of google might be that you need the same equipment, but the trails are differentn and that the weather is not the same as Mt. Adams.
Google- Can I hike with these shoes?
Google goes even further in terms of artificial intelligence. Images, videos and even web pages can also be incorporated into the search query. If I post a picture of my hiking boots in conjunction with the question of whether I can wear them on Mt. Fuji, Google can now give me a clear answer.
In addition, “MUM” solves the problem of language barrier. If there is no German answer to my question, it is normally indicated that there is no contribution to this. Now it is possible to translate the contribution, which is actually in another language, into German. Thus we have access to international contributions, which increases the amount of information enormously. Since artificial intelligence is man-made and it is still not perfect. Google warns that it could include false information by displayed web pages.
Who now, like me, can hardly wait to use “MUM”, must still be patient. MUM as it was explained by me, is still at the beginning and will probably still need a few years in development. Nevertheless, Google declared to release some small features based on “MUM” already in the next months or years.
