Google’s Disavow Tool is provided by Google to devalue backlinks. With this tool, Google offers webmasters the possibility to remove or devalue incoming links to their own website from the ranking. After the invalidation by the Disavow Tool, Google treats the links as if they were provided with a “no-follow” attribute.
Function of the Google Disavow Tool
First of all: The procedure should only be carried out by experienced SEO specialists, because it can also lead to a devaluation of important links. This, of course, would have a negative impact on your own website ranking.
Insofar as webmasters have the necessary expertise, the following procedure can be followed: A TXT file with UTF-8 or 7-bit ASCII encoding must be uploaded in the tool. There should be one link per line to be invalidated. Domains can be invalidated with the addition “domain:example.de”.
From experience, it takes between 2 and 16 weeks for a change in ranking to occur.
The good thing is that a link invalidation can also be reversed in the same way. To do this, another list must be uploaded that no longer contains the same link.
