On December 2, Google officially confirmed a local searchalgorithm update that had already been rolled out globally in November.
In recent days, there has been much discussion about whether Google has made renewed changes to the algorithm. Not infrequently, these changes are made without announcement or official confirmation from Google, leaving only speculation.
Now, however, Google has “Nov. 2019 Local Search Update” officially confirmed:
The update adds “neural matching” to local search and has been active globally since early November 2019. Neural matching is based on AI (artificial intelligence) and means that local search queries can be better understood in the overall context of the search query.
Just recently, Google rolled out a major update called BERT, which is also based on AI. The algorithm is therefore constantly learning and understanding human language better and better.
We are excited to see what effects we can now observe on our customer websites – it remains exciting! 🙂
