Also called Domain Pop for short, it shows how often a website has been linked. The number of backlinks linking to the website is decisive for this. However, since there were increased links from only one website here, which refers to its own website with several backlinks, Google has decided that this is not a meaningful factor. Rather, the number of domains is now decisive. Important: only one backlink per domain is taken into account. This means that it is not the number of links that is decisive (corresponds to the link popularity), but the number of domains.
Improvement of domain popularity
There are several ways that can lead to the improvement of domain popularity. Link building is one of them, especially through various high quality websites. The following measures can help in improving domain popularity:
- Natural linking via high quality content
- Links from communities and forums
- Backlinks from blogs (e.g. via guest articles, article exchange or product tests)
- Building satellite pages with different URLs
- Dissemination of articles via article directories and press releases
- Link purchase or rent
However, it is important to note that, for example, the link purchase is not liked by Google. If a link purchase is exposed by Google, it may result in a penalty.
Domain popularity is currently the most decisive factor for a good ranking in the search results.
