The First Input Delay is part of the Core Web Vitals. The FID measures the time from the first interaction of the user with the website until the browser is able to start processing an interaction. Currently, the FID can only be viewed in Google Search Console, where it comes from the Chrome User Experience Report.
A better value indicates a better user experience. Thus, websites with a low FID are rewarded with a better positioning in the search results.
Segmentation of the FID
Many webmasters now ask themselves: where exactly is a good FID score? Here there is a segmentation on the part of Google.
- Good: A response time of maximum 100 milliseconds, receives a good result from Google. The prerequisites for this are, of course, a stable Internet connection and a resilient, fast server.
- Room for improvement: From a period of 100 to 300 milliseconds, Google already rates the website worse.
- Bad: If the response time exceeds 300 milliseconds, Google penalizes the website. The webmaster should urgently make improvements here.
Together with the LCP (Largest Contentful Paint) and the CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift), the components make up what Google has called the Core Web Vitals.
