A principle patented by Google to display relevant websites for users in the vicinity. Local Rank is based on an algorithm that processes various signals from websites and provides users with relevant and helpful search results and thus websites. In the process, common websites are suggested to users in the search results by means of a local re-evaluation and their topic-related link structure.
How Local Rank works
From an index of around 1000 websites, a relevant part of the affected websites is extracted and subjected to an audit. Based on local internet connectivity, the internal linking between the extracted websites is checked as well as analyzed and rearranged. This may differ greatly from the original search results.
The re-ranking of the websites works on the part of Google according to a certain scheme: first the OldScore is subjected to a new ranking, this is called the ReRanking. This is followed by the application of the LocalRank procedure. In this process, it is checked how many links of the analyzed website are obtained from the subset of the index. If the number of internal links is high, this gives a positive signal to the LocalRank algorithm. Now, the result of LocalScore and OldScore is offset against each other, resulting in a new ranking of NewScore.
