Shoploop: New experiment from Google or Area 120 - e-commerce video platform.

Google is experimenting once again: It’s about the video shopping platform Shoploop, where products can be discovered, rated and purchased.The app is being developed by Google’s Area 120 lab and is not yet available in Germany. However, the page can be accessed via the following link: https://shoploop.app

Facts: What is Shoploop?

Shoploop is an e-commerce platform where users try and rate products in short videos (no longer than 90 seconds). These reviews are then used by other users to make purchasing decisions. With a click, the products can be saved or jumped directly to the merchant’s store. The “live test” of the product may also replace a consultation.

The app was initially launched only in the beauty sector. Companies that sell products from the beauty sector (make-up, skin, hair, nails) can therefore apply to become Shoploop Creators. Other areas are to follow.

Lax Poojary, Area 120’s general manager, was inspired to develop the novel shopping experience by the following experience:

“Last year I was in the New York City subway doing user research for Touring Bird, a project I worked on with Area 120, Google’s in-house lab for experimental projects. One of the young commuters standing next to me was silently scrolling her device, switching between a social media app, YouTube, and an online store.

Curious, I asked her what she was doing. It turned out she had seen someone promoting a makeup product on social media and wanted to check it out – so she looked at reviews on YouTube to see what it would look like in real life and if other people liked it. Then she looked it up on an e-commerce site to buy it. so she had to use at least three different apps or websites to find what she was looking for.

This was the original insight for a new experiment Area 120 is launching today: Shoploop, a video shopping platform for discovering, evaluating and buying products in one place.“

The platform is already being called a “competitor” for Instagram. The fact is that ratings and assessments by others have a significant influence on our purchasing decisions. The app is designed to ease our way to the final purchase of a product:

Who is Shoploop interesting for?

Since reviews from others are often the deciding factor in whether or not we buy a product and from whom, Shoploop is certainly of interest to anyone who sells products online.

It is not yet known when the video platform will be available in Germany. Interested merchants can already apply to become a Shoploop creator and be ready to start immediately.
