A link text describes the clickable hyperlink that is connected to a URL and refers to another web page. It can be one word, several words, characters or even a whole sentence. An anchor text or reference text can also be used as synonyms for the link text.
The development of Link Text
In the SEO area, link texts play an important role among other things, for example in link building. However, since this is only really relevant since the early days of Google, link texts used to receive less attention. With awareness of Google, link texts became more and more important, because they should usually contain Keywords or terms relevant to the text. So links developed more and more to “hard links”, which contained the exact keyword for which should be ranked.
In the evolution of search engine optimization, it is now also increasingly important that users click and especially know what to expect on the following web page – this is where a more meaningful, optimized link text comes into play.
The scenario described above applies mainly to external link texts, internal links in turn, can be hard linked and provided with the very keyword for which a good ranking should be achieved.
